Giants safety Landon Collins is excited that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was promoted to interim head coach after Ben McAdoo was fired on Monday. But Collins said his motivation to play hard in the final four games of this miserable season has nothing to do with who is on the sidelines.

"Not just for Spags, just playing hard in general, just for yourself," Collins told NJ Advance Media while visiting the Verizon Holiday House. "At the end of the day, you're putting yourself on that film and you're playing for the name on the back of your shoulder pads. That's how I view it in the back of my mind. Each and every week, I'm playing for this organization, I'm playing for Mr. Mara for giving me a chance to play in the NFL. So I'm playing for him and then playing for myself and in just general putting good film out there, putting the film out that people have seen since I've been in the NFL."

Spagnuolo will be the third head coach of Collins' three-year career. Collins didn't have the pre-existing bond with McAdoo and Tom Coughlin that he has with Spagnuolo, who has been the Giants' defensive coordinator throughout Collins' career.

"I'm excited," Collins said. "We'll see how it goes. That's my defensive coordinator so it's going to be kind of different. I don't even know what to expect having a DC as your head coach now. I had more time with him. We used to do our ball drills on the side. Now he's got to be watching everything. Now I can't even get my coach to myself anymore. Other than that, I'm excited to see how it goes. I know they're going to take him into consideration be the head coach next year."
