Why Jets should wait on Todd Bowles extension

Todd Bowles was supposed to be the New York football coach looking for a job at the end of 2017, not Ben McAdoo. But McAdoos firing is another example of how quickly things can change in sports.

That is why despite Bowles doing a very good job through the first three-quarters of the 2017 season, the Jets should not be in any rush to hand him a contract extension. The Jets have four games left, and that is four more games of evaluation for Bowles, who is 20-24 in his time as the Jets head coach.

There is no reason for Christopher and Woody Johnson to make a decision on Bowles until the season is over and they can evaluate the entire picture. Whats the rush? He is not going anywhere because he is under contract for 2018 and a lot can change in four games.

To me, Bowles future was always about the last six games of the season. The bye week falling where it did created a natural six-game stretch run for the Jets. Wins and losses in the early and middle parts of the season will be far in the rearview mirror by the time we get to Dec. 31 and the Jets brass must render a decision on Bowles.
