As the Patriots head into the offseason following a painful Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles, they will be tying up loose ends and trying to deal with all the necessary issues at hand.

For Bill Belichick, that will include the elephant in the room.

While the Patriots coach wont publicly discuss his reasons for having Malcolm Butler stand on the sideline the entire game, as the cornerback didnt see the field for a single defensive snap in the 41-33 loss, Belichick needs to discuss his rationale for benching Butler. He needs to have a dialogue with the players, or at the very least, the captains and leaders of his team.

Its one thing to have former players come out and be critical of a move by the Hoodie, which has been the case here. But its another matter when current players do the same, albeit, in a less direct way.

Belichick, who characterized Butlers benching as a football decision that didnt have anything to do with discipline, has seen current players, including Tom Brady, support Butler, who took to Twitter and Instagram last week to defend himself.

Brady endorsed Butlers post on Instagram, then wrote, Love you Malcolm. You are an incredible player and teammate and friend. Always!!!!!!

Many other current players also added their names in support of Butler. So Belichick can either ignore the issue, and let it fester during the offseason, or deal with it head on so it doesnt become a bigger problem next season. NBC analyst Rodney Harrison suggested Belichick will take preemptive action.
